When it comes to personal trainers they can generally be split into two camps, you have your coaches and you have your trainers. Now, I know you might be thinking, “what’s the difference?” Well, quite simply, everything.
Let me try and explain.
A ‘trainer’ will do exactly that, train you. They will push you to your limits and have you feeling like you’ve had the best session ever. All good stuff, but unfortunately, this is where their skillset ends. They are generally a bit of a show pony, all style and no real substance. A bit like a non-alcoholic beer really, looks the same, tastes the same but let’s face it, it’s not the same.
They are not going to be able to look at a movement pattern and spot what’s going on and correct it, they aren’t going to be able to demonstrate and explain the more technical aspect of a movement and they aren’t going to be the person that helps you rehab an injury.
These people will just train you, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but if you are going to be investing your money to hire someone to get you to where you want to be, why not hire the best?
Why not hire someone who is going to improve the way you move, keep you pain free and make you stronger safely?
Why not hire a coach?
A good coach will do all of these things and more. They will not only be able to show you how to do a movement correctly, but also explain the reasons why. You see a great coach is also a good teacher and the moment you understand a movement and what you are supposed to be feeling is the moment you start your journey to getting stronger and improving.
They will still be a good trainer and deliver a great session, but will just have a little more about them and be able to offer assistance in every other aspect of health and fitness. They are like true alcoholic beer, the real deal and the person you want to have at hand.
