Training with Purpose

When you walk into the gym, are you thinking about what you want to achieve with this session?

Does the time that you spend at the gym have a purpose, or is it part of your 9-5 repetitive routine? i.e, you go to the gym because that’s what people do, that’s what society expects you to do, you need to take care of your body and so you find time in your super busy city-life schedule to fit in an hour of training a few days a week.

So, you begrudgingly pull yourself out of bed to make time for a 6am work-out to drag your sorry ass to the gym to get it over and done with so that you can spend the rest of your day feeling like you achieved something.

If you want to amplify your results in the gym, focus your mind on what you are doing instead of worrying about the meeting with your boss that afternoon.

The next time you walk in through the front door, think about how you are going to feel as you train.

Concentrate on how your muscles feel while you’re doing your warm-up.

Bring your attention to the muscle being worked. Let’s say you’re starting with a deadlift; focus on setting your body up for the movement and how your contracted muscles feel as you fire up through the glutes. Intentionally focusing attention on the muscles you’re working leads to increased muscle contraction and you will extract the maximum benefit from each and every rep.

This will shift your focus from getting it “over and done with” to enjoying – even loving – your time at the gym and then see how your results increase!

Continue to implement this process of being present in the rest of your daily activities; on your commute to work, attending business meetings, dropping the kids off at school, cooking dinner…

Enjoy the moments of your life instead of mindlessly getting things done and missing the ride.
